Methodology

How the College Graduation Calculator Works

The calculator follows your planned academic calendar, subtracting credits from the remaining degree total until the balance reaches zero.

1

Start with your degree audit

Enter credits that apply to your current degree rather than the total shown on a transcript.

2

Set a realistic term load

Add your usual Fall, Spring, Summer, or Winter load and override any exceptional term.

3

Review the timeline

Use the term-by-term result and plan comparisons to adjust your course pace.

Core credit estimate

Credits remaining = degree requirement − completed credits − in-progress credits

The timeline then applies your entered load to each active term. The final term uses only the credits still needed.

Accurate interpretation

What Your Result Means

The result is a credit-based estimate of when your plan reaches the entered degree credit target. Colleges also evaluate specific courses, major and general education requirements, GPA, residency rules, and other program requirements.

  • Use your degree audit or academic progress report.
  • Count in-progress credits only when you expect to complete them successfully.
  • Update the plan after registration, a course withdrawal, transfer evaluation, or program change.
  • Use your college calendar for official conferral and commencement dates.

Questions

College Graduation Calculator FAQ

How is my estimated college graduation term calculated?

The calculator determines your remaining degree-applicable credits and applies your planned term loads in calendar order. The first term where the remaining balance reaches zero becomes the estimated completion term.

Should I enter transcript credits or degree audit credits?

Use the value from your degree audit or academic progress report. A transcript can contain repeated, developmental, excess, or non-applicable coursework that affects the timeline differently.

What happens if I skip a semester?

Add a term exception and set that term to zero credits. The timeline moves to the next active term and shows the later completion result.

Can I calculate how many credits I need for a target graduation term?

Yes. Select “Graduate by Target Term,” choose the final term, and the calculator divides the remaining credits across active terms through that date.

Does reaching the credit target confirm graduation eligibility?

The result confirms that the entered credit plan reaches the total-credit target. Your college determines whether course, GPA, residency, major, institutional, and application requirements are complete.

Are my entries uploaded?

No. Calculation and saved settings stay in your browser. A share link stores the selected values in the URL so you can reopen the same plan.
